Televëda Receives Fast Company Award Honorable Mention for Project Hózhó (The Hero’s Story)

May 2, 0203

Televëda was recently recognized as an honoree as a part of Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards. These awards honor projects that make the world more equitable, accessible, and sustainable.

The Health category of Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards honors medical innovations that save lives, extend longevity, make healthcare more equitable, or increase access to care. This year’s winner is the MC2 portable x-ray from  which is a portable device that emits far less radiation than other devices.

This award was given based on Televëda’s grant-winning project, Project Hózhó (meaning ‘balance’ in Diné). The project has been renamed “The Hero’s Story Project”. It is a mental health app that’s designed for and by Navajo veterans. Televëda is creating the app in partnership with Black Hills Center For American Indian Health, an organization aimed at improving the health of Natives living on reservations in South Dakota and Arizona.

The app uses traditional storytelling and talking circles in a hybrid format, with an aim to reduce veteran suicide and improve access to Veterans Affairs resources.

Televëda also recently won a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the application.
